How thrilled was I to find out that Rain Tees supporter and world-renowned supermodel Kate Dillon was going to be featured in Glamour wearing our Rain Forest Tee?

Kate has achieved what most models dream of – spreads in nearly every high-end glossy and runway shows and international ad campaigns for Chanel, Gucci, Max Mara, Prada, and Christian Dior to name a few.

People Magazine named Kate as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World, and for 18 years she has leveraged her career in fashion to campaign for eating disorders awareness, global poverty reduction and social justice issues such as fair trade and eco conscious fashion-which has in turn led to her support and upcoming collaborations with Rain Tees.

She even has a Master’s from Harvard University and is co-founder of stylecommune.com, a website for socially conscious style! We lover her and are thrilled for more fun Rain Tees collabs in the near future!

Break the Toxic Tee Cycle

As consumers everywhere are learning the truth behind what they are really wearing, many of us are also making educated choices about our apparel and realizing that our tees don’t have to be toxic at all and our jeans don’t have to contribute to water contamination in third world countries. Join the positive trend of supporting eco-conscious apparel and detoxify your wardrobe with these super simple steps.

The easiest and most important thing to do with almost any product we choose to purchase or consume is to look closely at the label. When it comes to fashion,  try buying apparel made from these fabrics which provide healthier alternatives to convention materials used:

  • Organic cotton – Just like organic foods, organic cotton is grown without the use of chemicals, pesticides or herbicides. It’s safer for you and definitely safer for the people making your pants.
  • Bamboo – Bamboo is fabulous for being anti-microbial and silky soft. Most does not require pesticides to grow. One thing to be aware of with the bamboo you choose, though, is that some bamboo manufacturing is leading to deforestation in some parts of the world and also needs to have what’s called “closed loop production” to be truly eco. How does a guy or gal best be aware? Go back to the label and tags and do a bit of research on the company that produced the tee. These days you can Google search a company quickly on your phone in store before you even make a purchase. An extra few minutes before you buy could lead to eventual changes in industries.
  • Hemp – Hemp also doesn’t require toxic pesticides to grow and also does not require as much water as cotton, making it a truly eco fabulous fabric. Some say it is the most eco fabric available today. Did you know that the United States Declaration of Independence was written on hemp?
  • Vintage and Recycled fabrics – Truly the way to go for clean eco living as millions of our clothes are thrown away every week and end up in landfills where massive amounts of methane are released throughout the decaying process, contributing to climate change.
  • Polartec – Believe it or not, these are fabrics are made from soda pop bottles! Their feel is super soft and silky and it’s recycling at its most innovative.
