Rain Tees Founder Beth Doane and I’O Manager Solana on the stunning beach-front patio of I’O restaurant, Maui- Hawaii

I felt lucky enough to have toured a completely biodynamic and organic farm in upcountry Maui-but to then be invited to eat at their gourmet restaurant in downtown Lahaiana, Maui was even more amazing!

I’O is nothing short of spectacular and deserves far more credit than just being known as a place for fine dining in Maui. At I’O, the use of organic food straight from their personally owned farms is an everyday occurrence and you can guarantee the quality of their ingredients will be evident in the taste of their exotic dishes. We blogged about our trip to their farms earlier this month and what they are doing is so impressive and profound. Beth and O’O farms Manager, Richard Clark.

Most people come to the Hawaiian island of Maui for things like its stunning beaches, and to find pure relaxation in its eternal tropical island sunshine, but with Rain Tees you can expect a slightly different twist!

Our team traveled north into Upcountry Maui to visit the 8.5-acre O’O farm, located on the rolling hills of Haleakala, Hawaii. This absolutely pristine bit of organically and biodynamically cultivated land actually sits upon one of Maui’s dormant volcano’s at about 6000 ft above sea level-what a breath of VERY fresh air this trip was!

Beth Doane and owner Sylvan at The Boo Boo Zoo Animal Refuge,  Maui, Hawaii.

While working on the island of Maui in Hawaii this past week I had the incredible opportunity to meet the people and hundreds of animals of the East Maui Animal Refuge. The Refuge (known as EMAR and “The Boo Boo Zoo”) began in 1977 as a unique therapy program for owner Suzie Schwab, who had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Her husband Sylvan noticed that caring for an injured bird gave Suzie the strength to fight her own illness, and so he began bringing home more animals in need of her tender loving care.

Rain Tees at Wildlife Trust’s Annual Gala

Rain Tees was thrilled to donate to the Wildlife Trust’s International Conservation Awards Gala & Auction this year. The annual event occurred Thursday, October 22nd at the Pierre Hotel on East 61st Street in New York City and included an evening of cocktails, special guests and both a silent and live auction.

The Wildlife Trust is unique in that its the only conservation organization focused on all the relationships essential to a healthy planet: wildlife, ecosystems, and humans.

Their mission is to empower local conservation scientists worldwide to protect nature and safeguard ecosystems and human health.

Wildlife Trust’s work also spans the U.S. and more than 20 countries in Central and South America, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia.

Founded in 1971 by the British naturalist, author and television personality Gerald M. Durrell, the wildlife trust has expanded its mission even farther to include not only endangered species conservation and training for local scientists, but also international conservation and resolution of human-wildlife conflicts, and what’s known as “Conservation Medicine”.
